There's no telling which initiative will pay off. My obscure research 
on William Pickens, for example, which is linked to Elizabeth 
Alexander, who wrote a poem about him ("First Afro-American 
Esperantist") as well as President Obama's inauguration poem, got one 
woman to my Esperanto guide, and she immediately became captivated. 
Already in the course of a few hours, she has written to me a few 
times mixing in phrases in Esperanto she taught herself on the fly 
with English, beginning with "dankon" and "mi ne komprenas". Now she 
tells me she's eager to learn the language and teach it to young 
people. Who knew?
